I am writing this note to personally thank Simon for the exemplary work he carried out this April and May to my 1985 Weterly Griffon Mk.2, 'Ilex'.
The work was completed at Port Edgar Marina in Edinburgh exclusively by Simon and was completed to 'classic boat' restoration standards.
The work was extensive and varied and, included the following:
  • The restoration and varnishing of the grab rails, toe rails, rubbing strake and all external wood work at the companinonway and in the cockpit
  • Removal and refitting of the saloon and toilet headlining panels, complete with new vinyl covering
  • The re-painiting of the entire deck in 'tri-deck' grey paint
  • The re-fitting of a new Vetus exhaust on the transom and the removal of previously rusty fittings icorporating necesarry gel coat repairs
  • Re-fitting of new rudder bearings
  • Anti-fouling and sealing the keels
  • Installation of a new rope cutter
  • Polishing the hull and topsides and the dark blue boot top
  • Restoring previously, poorly finished gel-coat repairs, to a high standard
There may be other items that I cannot recollect just now, apologies Simon, but as you can see the work was substantial and varied, which reflects Simon's excellent boat restoration skills and length of experience as time served boat builder.
The standard of finish is first class and his work ethic and tidiness reflects both his professionalism and genuine appreciation of how important a boat is, to its owner. This is a quality sadly lacking so often, these days.
I have no hesitation whatsoever, in recommending Simon and I would be delighted to have him work on Ilex again.
With kindest regards
Graeme R. Jones
His level of work is fantastic and he does a great job on everything he does. Whether it be a boring job like painting bilges to technical jobs like gel coat repairs and rebuilding cabins. And a great honest man to deal with.

Simon took my Sailing Yacht (a Oyster 48) from the UK to Gibraltar and then he skippered the yacht on a cruise of the Western Med, including North Africa and the south and east coast of Spain and the Spanish islands. He also managed very well some major engine repairs and finally brought the yacht back to the UK to be sold. He is a great skipper, very knowledgeable and prudent. But his great skill is that he knows everything about boat building and managing a yacht."
